How Grief and Loss Therapy Works

Grief and Loss Therapy consists of 50-minute, one-on-one sessions that help you work through your concerns. In addition to listening, I will ask questions and provide guidance based on my experience. I play an active role. Here’s how it will work step-by-step: 

  1. First, I provide a safe, accepting space so that you will feel comfortable telling the story of your loss.
  2. Through hearing your story, I will start to get a picture of where you are in the grief process and educate you about what to expect on your grief journey.
  3. We will also work to manage any feelings of guilt or shame around your loss.
  4. Keeping your unique goals in mind, we’ll figure out what’s needed to help you actively grieve in ways that evoke healing.
  5. Over the course of our sessions, you will learn how to reconstruct the bond with your lost loved one rather than relinquishing it.
  6. Finally we will explore how you can find meaning again.
